Heel Spurs

A heel spur is a small deposit of calcium on the bottom of the heel bone, only visible by X-Ray or other imaging techniques such as MRI scanning.

They tend to be caused by repetitive activities, including dancing, running and racket sports. Heel spurs can also form alongside Plantar Fasciitis - an inflamed ligament along the bottom of your foot that leads to heel pain.

There is no 'magic cure' for heel spurs - they should eventually go away over time. However, a good pair of insoles will ease some of the pressure and pain off your foot, speeding up the heeling process and protecting your feet from future injuries.

Heel spur are usually diagnosed through medical imaging - X-rays, MRIs and similar.

For a long time it was thought that heel spurs caused heel pain, however recent studies have dismissed this theory. Also, new imaging showed the ‘spur’ to be a plateau of bone rather than a spike or spur as originally thought.

If you're feeling pain around your heel, there's a good chance your heel spurs are related to Plantar Fasciitis. In this case, a HeelFixKit is the recommended treatment, with exercises, strapping tape and insoles. We also recommend the X-Line PF Insoles as an insole designed to tackle heel pain.

If there's little or no pain around your heel, a good pair of insoles like the X-Line PressurePerfect will support and cushion your feet.

Used in conjunction with foot strengthening exercises with therapy balls or bands, and sometimes a soft gel heel cup, your feet should be on the road to recovery in no time.
